HP TouchSmart 9100 Business PC
By Content • Jun 24th, 2010 • Category: Computer ReviewsWhile touch screen interfaces are becoming the standard for mobile devices, there are a limited number of computers using it. HP hopes to change that with the HP TouchSmart 9100 Business PC. The machine features a gorgeous 23 inch touchscreen display at full HD resolution and uses both touch screen interaction and a mouse and keyboard for more flexibility.
Perhaps taking a cue from the popular iMac, the 9100 is a self-contained unit. The LCD display and all computer components are integrated into one machine. Also integrated into the machine are a webcam, speakers, and microphone. The only external devices are the wireless keyboard and mouse. Although the keyboard and mouse are valid options for interfacing with the computer, HP has included optional touch applications that can replace or augment your usual applications, allowing for more intimate interaction with the program using only your fingers.
Users are not limited to only the 23 inch display, either. The machine can output to projectors or larger displays with an external DVI output. In fact, with a simple adapter cable, it could easily be output to an HDTV.
Using a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processor under the hood, it also includes up to 8GB of RAM, depending on your configuration, and Windows 7 Professional operating system. The hard drive can be upgraded to a maximum of 500 GB, or buyers can even opt for a 64 GB solid state drive for faster access and performance, though this does come at a premium price.
While it remains unclear whether touch screen interfaces will catch on in home or business computing, HP has done an excellent job of implementing it in a powerful machine with great performance. Its high price will be a bit steep for some buyers, but that is the price one pays for cutting-edge technology, and those who really want a touch screen experience in the home or office should be very pleased.
