At this year’s Intel Developer Forum, Dell took the stage previewing its forthcoming Inspiron Duo convertible tablet/netbook, codenamed Sparta. This machine boasts a revolutionary design switching seamlessly from tablet PC for immersive entertainment to a standard netbook for instant portable productivity.

The new Inspiron Duo will have a 10 inch display, run Windows 7, and come standard with a 1.5 GHz dual-core Intel Atom N550 processor, 1 to 2 GB DDR3 RAM, and HDD storage of currently unknown capacity. Many key details about this machine have yet to be released, however it will come included with WiMAX, which means this hybrid machine will have the fastest wireless mobile broadband capability there is on the market at 4G speeds.

The Inspiron Duo starts out as a tablet device, which is simply that, a tablet with a touch screen interface. Unlike any other tablet on the market however, you can then open the keyboard beneath and literally swivel the screen 180 degrees inside its frame, converting it into a fully functional netbook PC. From what Dell has released this far to the press, this tablet/netbook will come in a variety of colors, boast some incredible design right down to the finish, and even have a built-in webcam on the netbook interior.

The Inspiron Duo will feature the same input and output connectivity of a typical netbook computer, however cleverly concealed and covered so as not to interfere with its sleek design while in tablet mode. The device shown at the Intel Developer Forum also had some interesting modifications to Windows 7′s user interface to make it more touch friendly, with bigger icons and touch based applications that definitely raised some eyebrows.

While few details have been released as yet, the Inspiron Duo is expected and confirmed by Dell to be due out later this year.
